Dentist Jobs
A Dentist examines and treats patients’ teeth and gums. Dentists are either a doctor of dental surgery (DDS) or a doctor of dental medicine (DMD). Job duties of a Dentist may include:
- Examining and treating patients with a malformation or disease of the gums or teeth
- Examining patients’ mouths for cavities or signs of disease
- Filling cavities, extracting teeth, cleaning teeth, and replacing teeth
- Performing preventative maintenance on the teeth and gums
- Recommending surgery or other procedures, as needed
- Guiding dental assistant through job duties, including x-rays and treatment
- Providing postoperative instructions to patients
- Managing dental emergencies
Dental Assistant Jobs
A Dental Assistant assists the dentist during the examination and treatment of patients. Job duties of a Dental Assistant may include:
- Preparing patient, sterilizing and disinfecting instruments, setting up instrument trays, preparing materials, and assisting dentist during dental procedures
- Taking and recording medical and dental histories
- Exposing dental diagnostic x-rays
- Making preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations for mounting study casts
- Assisting dentist in management of medical and dental emergencies
- Instructing patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs
- Providing postoperative instructions prescribed by dentist
- Recording treatment information in patient records
- Scheduling appointments, preparing bills and receiving payment for dental services, completing insurance forms, and maintaining clerical records, manually or using the computer

Dental Hygienist Hygiene Jobs
The Dental Hygienist performs as part of a dental health team under the supervision of a dentist. Involvement includes clinical dental work and education with specific responsibilities governed by the state in which the hygienist is employed. Job duties of a Dental Hygienist may include:
- Cleaning and polishing a patient’s teeth, removing plaque deposits and stains
- Applying medication for the prevention of tooth decay
- Taking and developing x-rays
- Making model impressions of teeth for study
- Obtaining medical and dental histories and recording information in the dental record
- Providing instruction for patient self-care, diet, and nutrition
- Placement of sealant or cavity preventative agents such as fluorides
- Placement of temporary fillings and periodontal dressings
- Smoothing and polishing silver amalgam restorations
- Other duties as assigned
