We are currently seeking two (2) anesthesia technicians for daytime contract opportunities in the Baltimore area! At least one year of experience as an anesthesia tech is required. This position will perform a variety of technical and supportive patient care tasks to assist attending anesthesiologists, residents and nurse anesthetists in performing anesthetic procedures for patients ranging from infancy to geriatrics. Additionally performs routine and delegated duties according to departmental policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Consult Operating Room schedule to determine supply and equipment needs for procedures; prepare anesthetizing locations for indicated procedure to include setting up and calibrating monitoring devices;
troubleshoot anesthesia equipment malfunctions, routing non-functional equipment to the proper department for repair.
• Assist anesthesia providers using aseptic or sterile technique with non-invasive and invasive patient procedures including peripheral and/or central intravenous and/or arterial line placement; airway
management techniques including mask endotracheal and/or emergency methods and regional anesthesia techniques.
• Assist anesthesia providers with physiological monitoring of patients notifying the anesthesia provider(s)of abnormal changes in vital signs and/or physical appearance of the patient.
• Clean anesthesia machines, monitors and equipment following procedures established by Infection Control.
• Stock anesthesia supplies in all anesthetizing locations including ploss carts, fiberoptic carts, emergency airway bags and any other anesthesia supply location.
• Obtain supplies and equipment as requested by anesthesia providers
• Assist with patient laboratory tests and results including, but not limited to, ABG’s, ACT’s and other point of care tests.
• Obtain blood products and pharmaceuticals assisting with preparation and delivery. Maintain immediate availability to assist in routine and emergency procedures. May act as a resource and role model for other anesthesia technicians, anesthesia providers, learners and other health care team members by providing
technical guidance and instruction as appropriate.
• May provide verbal and written feedback of interviewees and peers as appropriate and as indicated by supervisor.
• May serve as an instructor/facilitator of educational in-services for other anesthesia technicians.
• May act as role model for orientation and training of anesthesia technicians and other health care team members.
• May assume anesthesia technician charge role in managing daily work schedule of anesthesia technicians and directing care to provide an efficient and safe environment.
• Assisting the anesthesiologist with all anesthesia procedures; expediting patient flow through the perioperative area, maintaining patient safety, and developing and maintaining external (Patient,
Surgeon) and internal (Anesthesiologist, staff) customer satisfaction.
• Responsible for set up, operation and maintenance of specialized equipment, including life support.
• Assists the Anesthesiologist with evaluation and monitoring of the patients during the perioperative phase.
• Assists in sterile or Isolation areas.
• Assists in radiology departments where anesthesia is administered, MRI, ERCP, and Gastro.
• Participates in “call” rotation for continuous Perioperative Support Technologists (PST) at night, on weekends, and holidays. Perioperative Support Techs must be ready to participate in call schedule in nine months or less.

Minimum Requirements:
• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Medical or Science based secondary education.
• Graduate of an accredited program i.e. EMT, Paramedic, RT, or Anesthesia Technology (AT) program preferred.
• BLS required.
• Successful completion of the SMC Anesthesia Technician training program within the first 90 days in position is required.
• Washington State licensed HCA, categories A and B (WAC #246) required. HCA license must be obtained within 180 days after probationary period. (The HCA license must be tied to Swedish Medical
Center, not another medical facility).
• ACLS, EMT, Paramedic, RT, Medical, prior HCA licensing preferred.
• Anesthesia Technician certification through ASATT preferred.
• Successful completion of Maxim background screening and hiring process.
• Successful completion of Maxim Staffing Solutions testing process.
