Baltimore VA Medical Centers Join Epilepsy Research Network(http://baltimore.bizjournals.com/baltimore/)

The Veterans Affairs Maryland Health Care System will become part of a new Northeast Epilepsy Center of Excellence Network.

Funded by a five-year, $6 million federal grant, the network will include VA medical centers in Baltimore, Richmond, Va., and West Haven, Conn. The VA systems will share epilepsy data with academic research centers.

One argument against a public insurance option in the current debate over healthcare is that government typically isn't as efficient or proficient as the private sector. But some say that the Department of Veteran Affairs medical care is actually an excellent example of how the government is leading on healthcare quality and cost.
